Akpabio Urges Lawmakers and Journalists to Uphold Integrity

On September 28, 2026, Senate President Godswill Akpabio addressed lawmakers and journalists at the 2026 Capacity-Building Workshop organized by the Senate Press Corps. He emphasized the National Assembly's duty to protect public funds and urged journalists to uphold high standards in parliamentary reporting.

The workshop, themed “Leveraging Legislative Oversight and Media Collaboration to Safeguard the National Budget from Unlawful Insertions,” focused on enhancing transparency and accountability in the budget process. Akpabio, represented by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, highlighted the need for thorough and accurate reporting, cautioning against the rush to publish sensational claims.

He stated that credible journalism is vital in an environment of intense scrutiny and urged journalists to expose wrongdoing while avoiding unverified claims. The workshop featured presentations from various stakeholders, including Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Mr. Oluseun Onigbinde, Mallam Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, and Mr. Ikechukwu Chukwunyere.
