Akume Reaffirms FG's Partnership with Catholic Church

On Sunday, during the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria's (CBCN) first plenary meeting in 2026 held in Abuja, Sen. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to strengthening its collaboration with the Catholic Church.

Akume delivered a goodwill message, highlighting the significance of the meeting as a moment for reflection on the church's pastoral direction in Nigeria. He expressed appreciation for the Catholic Secretariat's invitation and noted that the plenary offers an opportunity to discern the spiritual and socio-economic realities facing Nigerians.

Akume acknowledged the enduring influence of the Catholic Church on Nigeria's moral and social development, commending its extensive network of schools, hospitals, and humanitarian institutions. He emphasized the church's advocacy for good governance and human dignity, asserting the government's readiness to engage constructively with the church to promote interfaith harmony, youth empowerment, and economic reform.
