Akwa Ibom Police Launch Traffic Regulation Enforcement

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has commenced a renewed enforcement of traffic regulations across all 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom, aimed at improving road safety and preventing accidents. Timfon John, the command’s spokesperson, announced the operation in a statement issued in Uyo on Friday.

The enforcement will focus on several traffic offences, including driving against traffic, operating vehicles without valid documents or a driver’s licence, and using unauthorized number plates. The police urged all motorists, commercial drivers, motorcyclists, and tricycle operators to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and that all necessary documents are valid.

The command warned that ignorance of traffic regulations would not be accepted as an excuse, and offenders would face legal consequences. Area commanders and divisional police officers have been instructed to intensify enforcement, while the command emphasized that officers must conduct operations professionally.

Officers involved in extortion or misconduct will face disciplinary action. The initiative aims to restore order on the roads and promote safer transportation in Akwa Ibom.
