Jigawa Police Launch 'Operation Velvet' for Traffic Safety

The Jigawa State Police Command has announced the initiation of a statewide enforcement operation named ‘Operation Velvet’, set to begin on August 24, 2026. This operation aims to address ongoing traffic law violations and reduce road accidents throughout Jigawa State.

It will be executed simultaneously across all 27 local government areas in collaboration with other security and traffic management agencies. The operation will focus on enforcing compliance with traffic regulations, enhancing road safety, and protecting the lives of all road users.

Enforcement teams will conduct patrols and targeted operations at key locations, addressing offenses such as overloading, reckless driving, and use of unroadworthy vehicles. Offenders will face legal action, and a mobile court will be established to expedite the handling of traffic-related cases.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Tijjani Murtala emphasized professionalism and respect for citizens' rights during the operation, urging cooperation from all road users to ensure vehicle compliance with regulations.
