Algeria Cuts Diplomatic Ties with UAE Over Hostile Actions

On September 10, Algeria announced the severance of diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, accusing Abu Dhabi of engaging in "provocative or hostile" actions. The Algerian Foreign Ministry stated that all efforts to preserve bilateral relations had been exhausted.

The Emirati ambassador in Algiers has been given 48 hours to leave the country. Algeria did not specify a single incident leading to this decision but referred to a pattern of unacceptable actions.

This diplomatic rupture follows months of strained relations, including Algeria's move to terminate a 2013 air-services agreement with the UAE. Key points of contention include differing positions on the Western Sahara dispute, with Algeria supporting the Polisario Front and the UAE backing Morocco.

Additionally, Algeria opposes the normalization of relations between Arab countries and Israel, a stance contrary to the UAE's establishment of diplomatic ties with Israel under the 2020 Abraham Accords. The announcement marks a significant shift from recent friendly communications between the two nations.
