Thirteen Kidnapped Passengers Rescued in Benue State

On Sunday, relief swept across Benue State as thirteen passengers abducted along the Makurdi-Otukpo highway were freed after four days in captivity. The successful rescue operation was confirmed by CP Ifeanyi Emenari of the Benue State Police Command, who noted that the operation was directed by Governor Hyacinth Alia and involved collaboration with local task forces and security agencies.

Eight suspects were arrested, seven of whom were identified as bandit herdsmen responsible for the kidnapping. The incident occurred around 8 PM, and the victims were reportedly forced to walk through the bush until 4 AM, enduring harsh conditions.

Family members of the victims indicated that a ransom of 3 to 4 million naira was paid to facilitate their release. Governor Alia expressed gratitude to the security forces for their efforts and emphasized the need for continued vigilance against crime in the state, particularly during the farming season when such violence tends to escalate.
