AMAC Warns Against Unauthorized Haulage Revenue Collection in Abuja

The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has issued a strong warning against unauthorized individuals wearing red shirts in Abuja, Nigeria. These individuals falsely claim to represent the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and AMAC to collect haulage revenue.

The council clarified that only the FCT administration has the constitutional mandate to collect such revenue, not the local councils. The unauthorized collectors target heavy-duty vehicles and commercial transport, intimidating drivers for immediate cash payments.

AMAC has disassociated itself from these individuals and urged the public to resist such demands. The FCTA and area councils have the legal authority to collect specific levies, including haulage fees, as granted by the 1999 constitution.

The FCTA is yet to issue an official response to these specific allegations.
