Kwankwaso Demands Probe into Social Media Commentator's Murder

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the leader of the opposition, has condemned the murder of Dan Shagamu, a 54-year-old social media commentator, found dead in his home in Gaida, Kumbotso LGA. In a statement on his official Facebook page, Kwankwaso described the killing as a “horrific attack” and urged Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration to establish an investigative panel to probe the incident and ensure justice for the victim.

He warned that if the current administration does not take decisive action, the incoming NDC government would reopen the case upon taking office in 2027. Kwankwaso stressed the importance of protecting opposition voices and the right to freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.

He extended condolences to Shagamu's family and followers. The state police have confirmed the arrest of two suspects related to the murder, and investigations are ongoing, with plans to arraign the suspects in court once completed.

Amnesty International has also condemned the killing, highlighting rising threats against journalists and commentators ahead of the 2027 elections.
