14 Parties Set for August 15 Osun Gubernatorial Election

Prof. Joash Amupitan, Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), announced that 14 political parties will compete in the Osun gubernatorial election scheduled for August 15.

He expressed concerns regarding reports of violence and threats, which he described as a direct assault on the sanctity of the ballot. During an interactive session with media executives at the INEC office in Osogbo, Amupitan revealed that there are 2,339,233 registered voters across 3,763 polling units in 30 local government areas.

He also stated that 32,000 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) would be recruited through the INECPRES portal. Amupitan led a high-level delegation to inspect the ongoing Mock Accreditation Exercise, aimed at testing the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

He confirmed that the BVAS demonstrated optimal performance, with verification times averaging between 30 seconds and two minutes. The total number of BVAS devices for the election has been increased from 4,427 to 5,130, with backup devices also enhanced.
