Anambra Agency Dismantles Illegal Street Trading Structures

The Anambra State agency, Ocha Brigade, executed a crackdown on illegal street trading and shanties in markets including Ogidi, Afor Igw, Umunnachi, Oy Agu, Abagana, and Nkpor. This operation, carried out on a Monday, involved the demolition of several illegal structures that obstructed drainage channels and violated state environmental regulations.

The exercise aimed to sanitize the area and discourage residents from engaging in dangerous unlawful practices. Celestin Aner, the Managing Director of Ocha Brigade, stated that the action was part of the agency's responsibility to protect public life and infrastructure.

The operation targeted traders displaying goods on unauthorized public spaces, obstructing pedestrian traffic and roadways. The agency issued a firm warning to individuals involved in illegal constructions, emphasizing that such activities undermine public safety and damage the environment.

The government stressed its commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly Anambra, advising business owners to operate within approved market areas.
