Anambra Assembly Moves to Recall Suspended Lawmaker

The Anambra State House of Assembly has begun the process to recall Bernard Udemezu, the lawmaker representing Ayamelum Constituency, who was suspended for three months due to a social media post deemed damaging. The House described the content shared by Udemezu as harmful to the constituency.

On August 28, 2025, the House considered a report from the committee on ethics and privileges, which indicted Udemezu for alleged unparliamentary conduct, leading to the suspension resolution. Following the suspension, which commenced on November 26, 2025, and is set to lapse on February 26, 2026, Speaker Somtochukwu Udez directed the committee on rules, ethics, and privileges to review Udemezu's suspension.

Udez tasked the committee, chaired by Majority Leader Ikenna Ofodem, to urgently re-examine the matter in line with the House's resolution and report back at the next adjourned date, which is set for February 19, 2026.
