ACSONET Demands Updates from ANSIEC for Anambra Elections

The Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET), represented by its chairman Princ Chri Azor, has called on the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to issue immediate updates regarding its readiness for the upcoming local government elections set for August 29, 2026. The coalition expressed concern over ANSIEC's prolonged silence, warning that the absence of regular public communication could create uncertainty and erode public confidence in the electoral process.

ACSONET emphasized that ANSIEC is constitutionally mandated to keep the public informed and should publish comprehensive election timelines and updates. They urged the commission to provide details on the electoral process, including the completion of the election timetable, major milestones, and the nomination of candidates.

Additionally, ACSONET appealed to the Anambra State government to ensure that ANSIEC is adequately funded and equipped with the necessary resources to conduct free and fair elections, stressing the importance of transparency and public engagement in the electoral process.
