Teenager Fakes Kidnapping in Anambra, Demands N3m Ransom

In Anambra State, an 18-year-old girl, Mmesoma Ifediora, staged her own kidnapping and demanded a ransom of N3 million from her parents. The Anambra State Police Command arrested two suspects, Chinedu Nwobi and Okwudili Nweke, on March 14, 2026, for their alleged involvement in the conspiracy with Mmesoma's boyfriend, Obiora Okoy.

Mmesoma was rescued unharmed from a location known as Malaysia Forest in Iruayika, Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area. Upon interrogation, it was revealed that Mmesoma had conspired with Obiora to extort money from her parents, having taken an oath of secrecy about their plan.

They initially managed to receive N240,000 into an Opai account as part of the ransom. Items recovered at the scene included ten SIM cards, a 4G Wi-Fi device, and other personal items.

Mmesoma's parents had already paid N240,000 of the ransom before her rescue.
