Two Arrested for Staged Kidnapping in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command announced the arrest of two suspects, Chinedu Chiney Nwobi and Okwudili Nweke, aged 25, for their involvement in a staged kidnapping case. The incident involved the victim, 18-year-old Mmesoma Ifediora, who was rescued unharmed from a forest area known as Malaysia Forest in Iruayika, Awkuzu.

Upon interrogation, Mmesoma disclosed that the kidnapping was a conspiracy orchestrated in collaboration with her boyfriend, Obiora Okoy, who intended to extort 3 million Naira from her parents. She revealed that they had taken an oath of secrecy and maintained the deception for two months.

During the operation on March 14, 2026, police recovered several items, including cash, 10 SIM cards from different networks, a 4G Wi-Fi device, and other personal items. It was noted that the victim's parents had already paid 240,000 Naira as part of the ransom demand.

Obiora Okoy fled the scene upon the police's arrival and is currently at large.
