NDLEA Seizes 13 Drug Containers in Apapa Over One Year

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Apapa Strategic Command disclosed that it intercepted a total of 13 containers carrying various illicit substances between June 2025 and June 2026. Tukur Moham, a representative of the command, reported this during the grand final of the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The command imposed fines exceeding 12 million naira against two international vessels and secured three-year convictions for male drug convicts without an option of fine. Among the seized substances were approximately 162.47 tons of codeine-based syrup, 77 kg of cocaine, and 8.1 tons of cannabis indica.

Moham emphasized the need for innovative responses to evolving drug trafficking challenges and highlighted the importance of collaboration among law enforcement agencies, including the Nigerian Customs Service and the Nigerian Navy, to secure maritime corridors and prevent illicit drug supply.
