APC Constituents Demand ICPC Clearance for Orji

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency of Abia State are demanding the disqualification of Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji from the party's House of Representatives primaries due to corruption allegations. They have submitted a petition to the APC national secretariat in Abuja on May 8, urging the national screening committee to compel Orji to present clearance from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The petitioners argue that allowing Orji to participate would damage the party's image and expose it to legal complications, as he is currently facing trial on 16 counts of financial crimes filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The allegations include misappropriation of public funds, with a significant amount of 228.4 million naira linked to the case.

The APC screening process is expected to conclude by May 12, with a final list of candidates to be released on May 13.
