APC Primaries Lead to Tensions in Abia State

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has experienced an uneasy calm following the first phase of its primaries across Nigeria. Reports indicate a lack of consensus candidates, leading to potential crises within the party.

In Abia State, the House of Representatives primaries were conducted peacefully, with Hon. Benjamin Kalu winning the APC ticket for the third consecutive time, while Hon.

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha emerged as the candidate for the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, seeking a fifth term. The results were announced by Suleiman Argungu, the APC National Assembly Primaries Committee Chairman, who emphasized the need for fair and transparent conduct during the electoral process.

However, concerns remain about the party's internal dynamics, particularly with 99 aspirants vying for 36 positions, which could lead to disintegration if not managed properly. Additionally, in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara faced setbacks in his bid for a senatorial seat after failing to meet the party's requirements.
