APC Defends Wike's Ministerial Role Amid PDP Approval

The All Progressives Congress (APC) defended the ministerial appointment of Nyesom Wike, asserting that it received approval from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). During a media chat in Abuja on Wednesday, APC Chairman Bola Tinubu addressed questions regarding Wike's continued membership in the PDP while serving in the APC-led government.

He noted that Wike's appointment is not unusual, referencing previous instances where opposition figures were appointed to government positions, specifically mentioning Adamu Aliero, who served as a minister under a prior PDP administration. Tinubu argued that criticism of Wike's appointment is unjustified and disproportionate, highlighting that Wike formally wrote to the PDP's National Working Committee in 2023 to seek permission to accept the ministerial role, which was granted.

The APC maintains that Wike's role in the Tinubu administration reflects a broader acceptance of cross-party collaboration.
