APC Chairman Yilwatda Meets Emir Sanusi in Kano

On August 22, 2026, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), conducted a courtesy visit to Emir Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II at the Rumfa Palace in Kano. This meeting took place shortly after Sanusi returned from Abuja.

Muhammad Dallatu, a close associate of the Emir, confirmed the private nature of the meeting, stating that the topics discussed were not disclosed. The visit is significant as it occurs against the backdrop of increasing political activities leading up to the 2027 general elections and the ongoing dispute surrounding the Kano Emirate.

This crisis originated in 2019 when former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje's administration divided the Kano Emirate into five, resulting in Sanusi's removal and the installation of Aminu Ado Bayero as the 15th Emir. Although the law creating the five emirates was repealed in 2024 by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, restoring Sanusi as the 16th Emir, the dispute continues with Bayero still receiving support from factions linked to the former administration.
