APM Demands Resignation of Edo Governor Over Petrol Price Remarks

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has demanded the resignation of Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo following his remarks comparing Nigeria's petrol price to that in the United Kingdom. The party, through its National Publicity Secretary Mr Abubakar Yusuf, stated that Nigerians cannot afford petrol priced at N1,500 per litre, emphasizing the significant income and purchasing power disparities between Nigerians and Britons.

Yusuf criticized Okpebholo's comments as "reckless and irresponsible," highlighting that Nigerian workers earn substantially less than their UK counterparts. The APM also pointed out that public transportation in the UK is more structured, contrasting it with Nigeria's disorganized transport system.

The party expressed concerns that such comparisons could lead to further petrol price increases, potentially inciting public protests. Additionally, the APM indicated that the upcoming 2027 presidential election would allow Nigerians to choose a different direction, with their candidate Engr. Seyi Makinde prioritizing citizens' welfare.
