APM Demands Sanctions Against Threats to Democracy

The Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (APM), through its National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf, has demanded sanctions against individuals undermining democracy in Nigeria. This call follows a report from the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) Tyranny Tracker, which claims Nigeria has become a full authoritarian state under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

APM asserts that the current government has captured Nigeria's constitutional democracy and institutions, using security and anti-corruption agencies as tools against opposition parties. They allege that opposition leaders face intimidation, harassment, and prosecution on fabricated charges, while access to media and campaign venues is restricted.

APM also criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Josiah Amupitan, for its alleged interference in opposition affairs and failure to comply with court orders. The party warns that the current situation could lead to a significant crisis threatening Nigeria's democracy and calls for international intervention, including possible diplomatic sanctions against officials undermining democratic processes.
