Appeal Court Ruling Strengthens APP's Legal Status

Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi, a chieftain of the Action Peoples Party (APP) and the party’s Senatorial candidate for Imo East (Owerri zone) in the 2027 election, commended the Appeal Court ruling that upheld the legal status of the APP. He described the judgment as a significant victory for democracy and the rule of law, reflecting the collective resolve of Nigerians.

The ruling, delivered on Tuesday by a three-member panel led by Justice Abba Mohammed, nullified a Federal High Court judgment from June 15, 2026, stating that the trial court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case. The court found the suit brought by the National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL) to deregister the APP and other opposition parties to be incompetent, as the NFFL was not a juristic person and lacked legal capacity.

Amadi praised the judiciary for its independence and urged political actors to respect judicial decisions and foster a competitive political environment based on integrity.
