APRA Reaffirms Commitment to Africa's Digital Transformation

The African Public Relations Association (APRA) reaffirmed its partnership with the African Union for digital transformation during its annual general meeting held in Swakopmund, Namibia. Arik Karani from Kenya was re-elected as president, with Professor Michel Mekem from Cameroon as vice president and Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan from Nigeria as secretary general.

The meeting concluded on Thursday, with a focus on promoting public awareness, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and advancing digital literacy across Africa. APRA aims to enhance collaboration among governments, policymakers, media, academia, civil society, and the private sector to accelerate Africa's digital transformation.

The association remains committed to supporting the African Union's Agenda 2063 and will implement its next strategic agenda. The 37th annual conference will take place alongside the World Public Relations Forum in Abuja from November 15 to 21, 2026.

The assembly ratified a new APRA constitution that expands the executive council to include regional coordinators from six regions.
