Arabambi Sues UNN for Peter Obi's Academic Records

Abayomi Arabambi, a chieftain of the Labour Party, has initiated legal proceedings against the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) for allegedly refusing to release the academic records of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress. The lawsuit, filed on September 9, 2026, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, names Arabambi as the applicant and the Vice Chancellor of UNN as the second respondent.

Arabambi requested a certified true copy of Obi's Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy certificate, issued in 1984, under the Freedom of Information Act, but his request was denied. He had previously sent letters to the university, including a reminder on August 31, 2026, but received no response or lawful notice of refusal.

Arabambi's complaint centers on discrepancies in Obi's name across various documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission. The case is currently awaiting assignment to a judge.
