Arewa Group Urges UK to Reconsider Travel Warnings on Nigeria

Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, the Convener of Arewa Think Tank (ATT), called on the United Kingdom and other foreign nations to reconsider their travel advisories regarding Nigeria as the 2027 general elections approach. He stated that while these governments have a duty to inform their citizens about security risks, such advisories should not create unnecessary panic or depict Nigeria as entirely unsafe.

Yakubu reacted to the UK's latest advisory affecting 11 states, expressing concern over the timing of these warnings, particularly during election periods. He also defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's decision to remove the petrol subsidy, arguing that it has allowed state governments to meet financial obligations.

Yakubu urged Nigerians to give the Tinubu administration time to solidify its economic reforms. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of reviving the Ajaokuta Steel Complex for industrial development and called on religious leaders to avoid statements that could escalate political tensions ahead of the elections.
