Nigerian Army Foils ₦3m Baby Sale, Arrests 7 Traffickers in Calabar Raid

The Nigerian Army's 13 Brigade, in conjunction with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), successfully thwarted a ₦3 million baby sale in Calabar, Cross River State. The operation led to the arrest of seven suspected human traffickers, including Gloria Emmanuel, Anthony Bassei, Uduak John, Deborah Edet, Ruth Asoquo, Frada Donald, and Bless Okon.

The suspects were apprehended during a raid at the Glorious Amazing Grace Hospital in Ikot Ekpo, Calabar Municipality. Maj.

Yemi Sokoya of the Nigerian Army disclosed that the suspects were negotiating the sale of a newborn baby boy for the sum of ₦3 million, constituting a serious violation of the law and fundamental human rights. The arrested individuals have been transferred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and legal action.

The rescued infant is now in the care of the relevant authorities. The Army reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with civil authorities and relevant agencies to combat human trafficking and other criminal activities in the region.
