Army Foils Arms Trafficking in Plateau, Suspect Killed

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, troops from Operation ENDURING PEACE conducted a stop-and-search operation in Zak Village, Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State. During this exercise, they intercepted a green Volkswagen Golf vehicle, which led to the discovery of a specially fabricated concealed compartment in the dashboard.

The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes when instructed to open the compartment. Troops pursued and apprehended him, but he attempted to disarm one of the soldiers during restraint, prompting a swift military response that resulted in his neutralization.

A subsequent search of the concealed compartment yielded two AK-47 rifles, one magazine, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, one mobile phone, and one ATM card. The Nigerian Army stated that this operation demonstrates the effectiveness of ongoing security measures to disrupt the movement of illicit arms and reiterated their commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements in the region.
