Nigerian Army Raids Criminal Hideout in Rivers State

On July 23, 2026, the Nigerian Army executed an intelligence-led operation in Rivers State, specifically at a forest enclave in Awara Community Waterside, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area. This operation was carried out by troops from Sector 4 of the Joint Task Force South-East, under Operation UDO KA.

The hideout was believed to be utilized by criminal elements for planning kidnappings and attacks against security personnel and civilians. During the raid, the troops recovered one Lee-Enfield MK I rifle, one G3 rifle, 116 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

The Army stated that this operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the region, marking the fourth successful seizure of illegal arms within two weeks. The military emphasized the importance of cooperation between security agencies and the public in these operations and reiterated its commitment to aggressive, intelligence-driven actions until all criminal elements are brought to justice.
