Army Defeats ISWAP Attack in Borno, No Casualties Reported

In the early hours of Saturday, 15 August 2026, troops from Operation Hadin Kai repelled an attack by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a Forward Operating Base located in Mandaragirau, Biu Local Government Area, Borno State. The Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Muhammed Goni, reported that the troops detected the terrorists through early warning and surveillance systems, leading to the deployment of a combat team.

The terrorists launched a simultaneous assault from two fronts at approximately 0200 hours. The combat team engaged the attackers, resulting in a heavy exchange of fire, ultimately defeating the insurgents.

The Nigerian Army reported no casualties on their side, while the terrorists suffered significant losses. Troops recovered various weapons, including AK-47 rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, and other combat equipment.

Goni commended the leadership and professionalism of the 162 Amphibious Battalion for their decisive actions during the assault.
