Nigerian Army Defeats ISWAP Attack in Borno State

On August 15, 2026, troops of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation Hadin Kai, repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, Biu Local Government Area, Borno State. The assault began around 2:00 a.m. when the terrorists approached from two directions.

The 162 Amphibious Battalion personnel detected the attackers early due to surveillance systems, allowing them to respond effectively. A combat team was dispatched to intercept the insurgents, leading to a fierce gunfight.

The soldiers successfully overpowered the attackers, preventing them from breaching the base. A second group of terrorists attempted to infiltrate the camp but was also met with superior firepower.

The military's coordinated response forced the insurgents to retreat, and troops pursued them, recovering weapons including AK-47 rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, and other items used by the terrorists.
