Osun Development Association Calls for Peaceful Campaigns

The Osun Development Association (ODA) has called for peaceful campaigns as the Osun gubernatorial election approaches on August 15, 2026. In a statement released on Wednesday, ODA urged political actors to prioritize civil restraint and respect for the democratic process, warning against violence, hate speech, and intimidation that could threaten peace in the state.

Governor Ademola Adeleke is contesting for a second term against Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress, among others. Dr. Segun Aina, ODA chairman, emphasized that campaigns should focus on issues affecting residents, such as economic development, education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth employment, agriculture, and security.

The association also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society organizations to promote dialogue and tolerance. They urged security agencies to remain professional and impartial, ensuring a credible electoral process.

ODA plans to hold a summit involving political stakeholders in July 2026 to further promote peace and democratic values.
