Osun Government Defends UNIOSUN Against ASUU Claims

On 12 September 2026, the Osun State Government, represented by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Kolapo Alimi, responded to claims made by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) regarding the Osun State University (UNIOSUN). Alimi stated that UNIOSUN operates under its own Establishment Law enacted by the Osun State House of Assembly, refuting ASUU's assertion that it is merely a version of the federal Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act, 2012.

He emphasized that UNIOSUN's governance structure is independent of federal law. The government expressed surprise at ASUU's omission of Osun from a list of states recognized for implementing the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement, asserting that Osun had already begun paying arrears and was among the first to approve the new salary scale.

Alimi also rejected claims of arbitrary interference in the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure, stating that all actions followed constitutional and legislative processes. The government urged ASUU to verify facts before making public statements.
