Osun Government Defends UNIOSUN Governance Against ASUU

The Osun State Government, through Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Kolapo Alimi, rejected claims by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) Law is a mere adaptation of the federal Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act, 2012. Alimi stated that UNIOSUN is governed by its own Establishment Law enacted by the Osun State House of Assembly, emphasizing that the university's governance structure does not derive from federal law.

The government expressed surprise at ASUU's omission of Osun from its commendations for implementing the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement, asserting that Osun had already begun paying arrears before the Federal Government. Additionally, the government defended its actions regarding the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure, stating that it followed constitutional and legislative processes.

The Osun State Government urged ASUU to verify facts before making public statements to avoid creating unnecessary tensions.
