Imo Police Disbands Tiger Base, Launches New Crime Unit

The Imo Police Command officially disbanded the controversial anti-kidnap unit known as Tiger Base, which was established to respond to violent crime. This decision was announced during an inauguration ceremony held at the command's headquarters in Owerri on Wednesday.

The new unit, referred to as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), aims to enhance public safety and uphold citizens' rights. The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Audu Garba Bosso, stated that the VCRU was established in direct line with the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to strengthen rapid responses against violent crime.

The new unit will have an oversight board composed of representatives from various bodies, meeting bi-annually to provide advice and feedback, ensuring that the unit's operations align with its core mandate of swift response to violent crime while maintaining professional standards and restoring public trust.
