Obasanjo Accuses Atiku of Funding Impeachment Plot

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo alleged that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar supported an impeachment plot against him during his first term, providing ₦5 million to initiate the proceedings. Obasanjo's claims were made in a statement titled “Reply to Your Inaccurate Posture: ‘How Obasanjo Deceived Us in 2003’,” addressing comments from former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba.

Obasanjo refuted Osoba's allegations of misleading political leaders ahead of the 2003 elections, asserting that he did not deceive anyone and that significant discussions were conducted by senior figures within the Alliance for Democracy and Afenifere. He claimed that the late Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, was persuaded by Atiku to commence impeachment proceedings against him.

Obasanjo stated he was not concerned about the impeachment threat as he believed there was no constitutional basis for it, attributing the motivations behind the plot to Atiku's desire to assume the presidency.
