Obasanjo Accuses Atiku of Funding Impeachment Plot

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo alleged that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar financed an impeachment attempt against him during his first term in office. Obasanjo claimed that Atiku provided ₦5 million to the late Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, to initiate the impeachment process.

This allegation arose in response to comments made by former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba regarding political developments before the 2003 general elections. Obasanjo stated that the impeachment plot was coordinated by Atiku after a private meeting with Na’Abba, where Atiku allegedly persuaded Na’Abba that Obasanjo should serve only one term as president.

Obasanjo noted that this information was documented and reported to him by his Chief of Staff, a professional intelligence officer. Despite the alleged impeachment efforts, Obasanjo maintained that he was not unsettled, believing there were no constitutional grounds for his removal, and his administration remained focused on governance.
