Opposition Summit in Abuja Lacks Key Political Figures

A summit of opposition parties took place in Abuja on Monday, with significant absentees including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. The meeting was held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre and included other presidential candidates such as Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party and Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party, along with the Allied Peoples Movement vice-presidential candidate Lawal Musa Daura.

Salihu Lukman, speaking on behalf of the G100, introduced a proposed political framework aimed at establishing a Government of National Competence, which would prioritize competence, integrity, inclusiveness, and equitable representation. Lukman stressed the importance of creating a formal, enforceable agreement for a single four-year transition period, warning against relying on verbal assurances that have historically failed.

He insisted that any agreement must be documented and include consequences for breaches to ensure accountability among the participating parties.
