African Union Seeks Nigerian Navy Support for Pan-African Naval Exercise; Lagos State to Build Solar-Powered Schools

The African Union has formally requested the Nigerian Navy's support to host a Pan-African Naval Exercise in 2027 aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation among African navies. During a courtesy visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abba in Abuja, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye highlighted the exercise's significance in enhancing interoperability and building collective capacity to promote unified maritime security architecture in Africa. Adeoye commended the Nigerian Navy's leadership in maritime security, citing its recent recognition as having the strongest naval fleet in Africa. The exercise is proposed to involve navies within the ECOWAS maritime zone to enhance regional cooperation and combat transnational maritime crimes.

In a separate development, the Lagos State government disclosed plans to construct additional modern schools equipped with solar power energy systems across local governments to address educational infrastructure challenges. This initiative aims to improve learning environments and tackle persistent electricity issues in public schools. The proposal was welcomed during stakeholder engagements involving teachers and community leaders.
