Former PDP Chairman Bamanga Tukur Dies at 90

Bamanga Tukur, the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), died on September 12, 2026, at the age of 90 in his residence on Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Abuja. A statement from Chief Oliver Okpala, with approval from Tukur's children, indicated that his body would be transported to Adamawa for burial according to Islamic rites.

Tukur was a prominent political figure, having served as the governor of old Gongola State and held various ministerial positions, including Minister of Industry. He was also the first African to address the United Nations Assembly as a private individual.

Tukur became the PDP chairman on March 24, 2012, emerging unopposed after ten other aspirants withdrew. He is survived by his children, including Rt.

Hon Awwal Tukur, the Secretary to the Government of Adamawa State. Tukur's death occurred just two days before his 91st birthday, marking the end of a significant era in Nigerian politics.
