Bandits Abduct Zamfara Council Chairman Nura Umar

On Friday night, bandits attacked the residence of Nura Umar, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, abducting him along with his wife and children. During the assault, two policemen and two members of a vigilante group were killed.

The assailants later released Umar's family after giving him the choice to either secure their freedom or his own, to which he opted to remain in captivity. A family member, Anas Ibrahim, expressed disappointment over the lack of timely response from security personnel, who were called during the attack but did not arrive until after the bandits had left.

Abdullahi Na Allah, a local resident, reported that the bandits engaged in a fierce gun battle with the chairman's security guards before abducting him. Efforts to reach Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, for comments were unsuccessful, and as of the report's filing, no official statement had been made by security agencies regarding the incident.
