Bandits Kill NSCDC Officer, Abduct Daughter in Kogi

On June 8, 2026, armed bandits attacked the residence of Mr. Ayo, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in Yagba West Local Government Area, Kogi State.

During the attack, Mr. Ayo was shot in the head and subsequently pronounced dead upon arrival at a medical facility.

His daughter was abducted by the assailants. This incident has raised significant alarm among residents due to the deteriorating security situation in the area.

Just a week prior, similar attacks occurred in Aiyegunle Igun, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area, where two individuals were killed and 30 others were abducted. Additionally, in Ikoyi Community, Ijumu Local Government Area, three people were killed, and several others were abducted during a burial ceremony.

The frequency of these violent incidents has led to heightened fear and uncertainty among the communities in Kogi West Senatorial District, prompting calls for urgent action from security agencies and the state government.
