Bandits Attack Zamfara Village, Residents Flee Amid Security Gaps

On Monday night, gunmen attacked Lilo Village in Zamfara, leading to the evacuation of residents who expressed fear over the lack of security presence. Locals reported that the attack occurred shortly after security agents had left the area, raising concerns about troop withdrawals.

Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, a resident, noted that the village was overrun by bandits around 11 PM, and they had not seen any military personnel deployed for protection. The residents have appealed to the government for assistance to safeguard their community, which has faced security threats for years.

Governor Bello Matawalle had previously deployed troops to the area in June 2019, but the recent absence of security forces has left the village vulnerable. The Zamfara State Police confirmed the incident and reported that a tactical team was dispatched to restore normalcy.

However, efforts to reach the governor's spokesperson for further comments were unsuccessful.
