Bauchi Governor Raises Alarm Over Railway Sleeper Removal

Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed raised alarms regarding the removal of railway sleepers along the rail corridor in Alkaleri and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area. He observed this activity during a condolence visit and directed his Chief of Staff to write to the Federal Ministry of Transport seeking clarification.

The governor expressed worry that national assets in the state were being dismantled without consultation. He noted that security personnel accompanied the workers involved in the removal, but the justification for this action was deemed insufficient.

Governor Mohammed criticized the impact of dismantling the rail line, emphasizing its importance for infrastructure that supports transport and agricultural production in the region. He warned that such actions signal neglect of a vital area, stressing the need for transparent collaboration between federal and state authorities, as decisions affecting critical infrastructure have significant economic impacts on local communities and their livelihoods.
