Bayero Notifies Police for Upcoming Sallah Durbar 2026

Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano, has officially informed the Kano State Police Command about the plans for the Sallah Durbar celebrations, set for March 7, 2026. The notification was communicated through a letter addressed to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, and was made available to the public by the emir's spokesperson, Abubakar Na Isa.

The letter outlines the program and activities for the Sallah Durbar, which will feature traditional durbar processes, including hawan sallah, hawan daush, hawan nasarawa, and hawan panisau, alongside cultural displays associated with the Eid festival. The letter also expresses appreciation for the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace and order in the state.

The Sallah Durbar has raised security concerns in recent years due to tensions linked to the rivalry between Bayero and the former emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II. The situation intensified following the 2020 dethronement of Sanusi by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the subsequent reinstatement of Sanusi as the 16th emir of Kano by Governor Abba Yusuf in 2024.
