David Mark Urges Action Against Violence in Benue State

David Mark, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, issued a statement on Monday, urging the federal government to take immediate action to address the increasing violence and kidnappings in Benue and Plateau states. His call follows reports of 16 people killed in Otukpo, Benue State, and similar incidents in the Riyom local government area of Plateau State, attributed to armed militia.

Mark expressed concern over the hijacking of commercial buses along the Otukpo-Taraku-Makurdi road, where gunmen allegedly abducted passengers. He emphasized that the rising bloodshed and kidnappings pose a major threat to national security and social stability, demanding that the government protect lives and properties.

Mark urged the armed forces and police to intensify operations against the perpetrators and improve intelligence gathering. He also called for collaboration among state governments, traditional rulers, and community leaders to strengthen security measures.

Mark extended condolences to the families of the victims and stressed the need for decisive action to restore peace in the region.
