Effiong D. Akan Launches "Uruan Story" in Lagos

The book launch of "Uruan Story" by Effiong D. Akan took place on June 15 at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event gathered notable figures, including former military officers and public servants, to discuss the cultural and historical significance of the Uruan people, an ethnic group in Akwa Ibom State. Akan, a former Group Executive Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), emphasized the urgency of documenting the Uruan people's narratives, which have often been overlooked in mainstream Nigerian historiography.

The chairman of the occasion, Otuekong Captain Augustin Okon, noted that the identity of the Uruan people transcends geographical boundaries, rooted in shared language and customs. The book serves as a bridge between generations and aims to preserve the community's cultural identity amidst modern pressures.

The launch also included support from former Minister Udo Udoma and highlighted the ongoing geopolitical issues surrounding Bakassi.
