TCN Schedules Blackout in Abuja for Maintenance on July 18

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced a scheduled blackout for parts of Abuja on Saturday, July 18, 2026, as part of a planned maintenance exercise at the Kubwa 132/330kV transmission substation. According to TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, the blackout will occur from 10:00 PM to 4:00 PM to allow maintenance crews to perform annual preventive maintenance on the 100MVA 132/33kV power transformer TR2 and its associated switchgear.

As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to several areas, including Ushafa, Jigo, Pambara, Kogo, Veritas University, Bwari, Duts Army Estate, Berger Camp, FHA, FCDA, Karatana Village, Aso Garden, and Papa Ground. TCN also stated that this blackout was previously announced by AEDC, affecting the Presidential Villa, National Assembly Annex, and Supreme Court area over the same weekend.
