Nigeria's National Para-Powerlifting Championship Set for 2026

The National Para-Powerlifting Championship will take place from April 30 to May 3, 2026, at the Indoor Sport Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. This event aims to bring together Nigeria's finest para-powerlifting athletes, highlighting the talent within the sport.

Notable athletes expected to participate include Folashad Oluwafemiayo, the current world champion in the 86kg category, and Esther Onyema, a world champion in the 55kg category who successfully defended her title at the 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championship in Cairo, Egypt. Onyema, born on April 20, 1982, has made a significant impact in para-powerlifting since her debut in 2000, setting African records and winning multiple gold medals at major international competitions, including the Paralympic Games and Commonwealth Games.

The championship is also seen as a critical platform for talent discovery and athlete development in preparation for upcoming international competitions.
