Kukawa Communities Resettled as Farming and Schools Resume

Five communities in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State have been resettled after enduring years of displacement caused by the Boko Haram insurgency. Executive Chairman Mustapha Muhammad disclosed this during an exclusive interview with the Nigerian Tribune in Maiduguri.
He noted that the restoration of relative peace has allowed displaced residents to return home and begin rebuilding their lives. The chairman emphasized that improved security has enabled farmers to access their ancestral lands again.
He also mentioned that the reconstruction of schools is helping to bring children back to education, with the government providing free meals and uniforms to encourage attendance. Fishing activities, which were severely disrupted, are also resuming.
However, some security challenges persist, particularly for travel between communities, necessitating military escorts in certain areas. Muhammad credited the progress to the commitment of Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, who has been actively supporting local governance and economic activities despite ongoing security challenges.
