Zulum Removes Village Heads in Mallam-Fatori Over Absence

On Monday, Borno Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum ordered the immediate removal of all Village and Ward Heads in Mallam-Fatori following their absence during his working visit. This directive aims to initiate the appointment of new representatives to assist the returning population in rebuilding their community, which has suffered from years of insurgency and displacement.

Zulum expressed that the absence of local leaders was unacceptable, particularly as residents begin to return and rebuild their lives. He highlighted the critical role of traditional leaders in stabilizing post-conflict communities.

The Governor instructed Hon. Sugun Mai Mele, the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, to collaborate with the Shehu of Borno to appoint new Village and Ward Heads. Zulum also committed to accelerating the reconstruction of essential public infrastructure, including schools and a hospital, to support returning residents.

He inspected damaged facilities and met with residents to discuss their challenges and needs.
